Ok well basically I have 2 1gb sticks of xms2 corsair RAM. They work fine when plugged individually into my motherboard (Asus P5N-E SLI), but when put in together (in either the paired yellow or black slots) my computer randomly crashes: either goes into a hard lock or reboots entirely.

I have a Core 2 Duo E6750 processor if that'll help.

Can anyone shed any light on my problem?

Thanks in advance,
Flyte

once both plugged in you updated ya bios so it reconises both rather than it only seeing 1 and crashing pc cos its deciding which to use?

When looking at dxdiag it detects 2048mb of RAM, so I'm guessing it does detect both.

in your bios, goto advanced section, memory timings, as below.

and set Commander Per Clock to '2 Clocks' (not 1 clock as shown).

Unfortunately it didn't work. My system had the same symtoms as before. Should I update my BIOS? The trouble there is I have no idea how...

your BIOS manual explicitly mentions CM2X1024-6400C4 Corsair sticks (which don't exist, but can be found listed on Corsair as T W I N 2 X 1 0 24 - 6 4 0 0 C 4 ) - page 1-18

I take it you've tried putting all Memory Timing settings to Auto ?

Could simply be knackered modules - fortunately those come with a lifetime warranty

The only memory modules I've ever had problems with was a TwinX set from Corsair which caused all kinds of weird random problems for months...

if you have an asus board there should be a bios update utility on the motherboard driver disk, i updated mine about a month back, was a piece of cake with the softeware back it up first though. once mine was done it rebooted as normal but wouldnt go into windows due to some kind of conflict, so i rebooted again and then it was fine. so having the back up will be good just incase.,
