lol yep...I've secretly been a function in Excel for the best part of a decade now, though I've only really been calculating accurately in Excel since 2003.  I've also recently branched out making a guest appearance in Reporting Services 2005

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826393

VARP returns the population variance for a population whose values are contained in an Excel worksheet and are specified by the argument or arguments to VARP.

The most common usage of VARP includes only 1 value argument that specifies a range of cells that contains the population, for example, VARP(A1:B100).

Replacing a one-pass approach by a two-pass approach guarantees better numeric performance of VARP in Excel 2003 and in later versions of Excel. Results in Excel 2003 and in later versions of Excel will never be less accurate than results in earlier versions of Excel.

As for the formula, I really did think about making a CS spray of it a while ago, but then decided:

       1) no-one would get the joke
       2) explaining it would be intensely tedious for both me and them

Incidentally a far more worrying development is these imposters who seem to have taken the Wasp/insect theme on board, then proceeded to make some of the weirdest music...for example such seminal classics as:
    The Slug vs The Unicorn
    Skanky Panky

    and
The Dance of the Soft Black Horns

Rave reviews have been flooding in which they proudly quote on their website:

The Varp is the sonic offspring of Dr Richard ‘Tate’ Taylor and Oliver Betts. This month they release their debut record.

Concieved, performed, recorded, mixed and mastered by The Varp at The Volt Studios in 2006. With additional guitars by Paul Betts.

See what they’re saying about “Hymns From Inside A Snail”:

“I like the CD cover, but the music is rubbish. It sounds like they just play what they want, but none of them can play their instruments”
    Vol's son

"I don’t like Art-House, Freeform Jazz, type music - and I think the Sax is the worst sounding instrument ever to be created - especially when it's played by someone like you two"
    Vol

“The strangest record I have received in many a day...what it means? I have absolutely no idea”
    Mike Bradshaw, Totally Radio

    Rock n roll
